Here is a short bio about this beautiful young child.

My 9-year-old daughter Karly Jean Rathbun, was only 8 when she got diagnosed with Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). It is a type of cancer in which the bone marrow makes too many immature lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell).
Her symptoms started over a year before that. She started getting sick to her stomach and complaining about her knees hurting. Doctors just kept saying she was allergic to some foods and we started taking certain foods away like gluten and milk products.
At the end of July Karly started getting bruises all over her legs. Then the bruises started moving up towards her stomach.

Up until the day she went into the hospital; she was a typical 8-year-old without a care in the world. Karly diagnosed with AVN in December. Avascular Necrosis (AVN) is a condition in which the bone “dies” as a result of a loss of circulation to an area of bone tissue.  That is where the bones start deteriorating because of lack of blood supply. There’s no cure for AVN.
She has two siblings, Karson 16 and Kayla 10. Karly loves to ride her hoverboard when she can and play with her guinea pig. She has been homeschooled since kindergarten and currently in the 3rd grade. She knows some American Sign Language and loves to sew and paint.
Two years ago she went to a fire station for a movie night and she told me then she knew she wanted to be a firefighter when she grows up.
