EOD teams are trained to disarm improvised explosive devices, Nuclear, Chemical and Biological weapons.
Each military branch has their own Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technicians. Three different badges, know as “CRAB” awarded to the EOD members. These are Basic, Senior and Master badges.

The basic badge is earned after a successful 42-week course. The training takes place at the Naval School of Explosive Ordnance Disposal at Eglin U.S. Airforce base located in Florida.

Each part of this badge has a meaning.
The Wreath Symbolic of the achievements gained minimizing accident potentials through the ingenuity and devotion to duty of its members. It is in memory of EOD personnel who lost their lives while performing EOD duties.

The Bomb Copied from the design of the World War II Bomb Disposal Badge, the bomb represents the historical and primary objective of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal, attack the unexploded bomb. The three fins represent the significant areas of conventional, nuclear, and chemical/biological interest.

Lightning Bolts Symbolize the destructive power of the bomb and the professionalism and courage of Explosive Ordnance Disposal personnel in their endeavors to reduce hazards as well as to render explosive ordnance harmless.

The Shield Represents the Explosive Ordnance Disposal mission. To prevent detonation and protect the property and surrounding area.
