Explosive Ordnance Disposal Teams teams train to disarm improvised explosive devices, Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological weapons.
All military branches have their own Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technicians.
Three different types of badges know as “CRAB” awarded to the EOD members. These are Basic, Senior, and Master badges.
The EOD badge is granted after a successful 42-week course. The training takes place at the Naval School of Explosive Ordnance Disposal located at Eglin U.S. Airforce base located in Florida.
Each part of this badge has a meaning:
The Wreath is symbolic of the achievements by minimizing accident potentials through the ingenuity and devotion to duty of its members. It is in the memory of the EOD personnel who gave their lives while performing their duties.
The Bomb Copied from the design of the World War II Bomb Disposal Badge, the bomb represents the historic and primary objective of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal attack, the unexploded bomb.
The three fins represent the significant areas of conventional, nuclear, and chemical/biological interest. The Lightning Bolts symbolize the destructive power of the bomb, the professionalism, and courage of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal “EOD” personnel in their endeavors to reduce hazards, as well as to render explosive ordnance harmless.
The Shield Represents the Explosive Ordnance Disposal mission. To prevent detonation and to protect property and the surrounding area.
