All military branches have their own Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technicians. Three badges are known as “CRAB” awarded to the EOD members. These are Basic, Senior, and Master badges.
This badge is earned after a successful 42-week course. The training takes place at the Naval School of Explosive Ordnance Disposal at Eglin U.S. Air Force Base in Florida.
Each part of this insignia has a meaning.
The Wreath symbolizes the achievements gained in minimizing accident potentials through the ingenuity and devotion to duty of its members. It is in memory of the EOD personnel who gave their lives while performing EOD duties.
The Bomb, Copied from the design of the World War II Bomb Disposal Badge, represents the historic and major objective of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal attack: the unexploded bomb. The three fins represent the major areas of conventional, nuclear, and chemical/biological interest.
Lightning Bolts Symbolize the potential destructive power of the bomb and the professionalism and courage of Explosive Ordnance Disposal personnel in their endeavors to reduce hazards as well as to render explosive ordnance harmless.
